Here's the picture with the person's name and the company name removed to respect anonymity:

This is a plaque at the desk of an employee at a company I visited in Philadelphia. I snuck the picture because I didn't want to risk offense. If you offend the wrong person in the Corporate World it could result in Catbert-like results.
To me, the plaque is a hilarious example of corporate absurdity. This is an international manufacturing company with dozens of facilities world wide and yet they run a motivational program that is on par with one more often associated with grade-school than with companies worth hundreds of millions of dollars (I had a star driven motivational program in my Kindergarten and second grade classes. Maybe others but, thankfully, not that I can recall).
Note also that the system pictured was implemented in 2008! Just imagine the path of the conversation at that meeting of managers: "Yes, gold-star-sticker-plaque technology and its inherent motivational effects are something we've overlooked for far too long!"
This trip also just happened to be one of the last I took while working at Component Control. Good times and lots of travel!
That's my random pic story for now!
I think you meant grade-school, but it's just as applicable to grad-school, lol.
ReplyDeleteI changed it...maybe I should have just left it.
